Second Hand Dining Tables and Chairs That Have Earned Their Place |
You can tell a good dining table by its knees. Not yours, its own: the joints where legs meet top, which take the strain every time the table is leant on, sat against or dragged for the hoover. That’s the first place I look when a dining set arrives, and if the knees wobble, it never reaches the website.
What does reach it: solid oak and hardwood dining tables and chairs from Barker and Stonehouse, Oak Furniture Land and similar. Extending tables whose mechanisms I’ve opened and closed myself, round tables that seat four without owning the room, family-length sets with the chairs that belong to them. It’s a smaller, faster-moving collection, because good dining sets barely touch the floor here.
When chairs come with a table I check every one, because chairs take more punishment than the table does: legs, stretchers and seat fixings all get the once-over. Listings say exactly what’s included, table only or table and chairs, with dimensions closed AND extended where there’s a leaf.
The money logic is the strongest in furniture. Dining sets cost four figures new and lose value faster than anything else in the house, which makes them the single smartest second hand purchase there is. Same table, same chairs, a fraction of the bill.
One of each, so when the right set appears, a £30 deposit holds it. Free click and collect from Houghton-le-Spring, North East delivery by me, couriers UK wide. And if today’s collection doesn’t seat your family, register the spec with Sorcit, my free sourcing service: seats-six-extends-to-eight is exactly the kind of brief I go hunting with. You’ll get an email when I land it.
Dressers and sideboards finish the space properly, and the full dining room collection has the lot.
