Larder Cupboards: Rare, Wanted, and Worth the Wait |
The freestanding larder is the most in-demand piece of kitchen furniture in Britain right now, and the numbers prove it: new ones run £800 to well past £2,000, and the second hand ones barely touch the ground. I’ll be honest with you, this is my scarcest category. When a proper larder cupboard arrives, oak or painted, shelved and door-racked, it is typically sold before the week is out.
Why the stampede? Because a larder does what a row of wall cupboards never will. Everything at eye level, deep shelves for the tins, racks on the doors for the jars, one pair of doors hiding the lot. Kitchens spent forty years ripping larders out; now everyone wants them back. Progress is a circle.
So this page works differently from my big categories. If a larder is listed below: it’s real, it’s been inspected (shelves solid, doors square, interior clean and dry, because a larder that smells of anything is firewood), and it’s one of one. A £30 deposit claims it. I would not sleep on it.
If nothing’s listed, put yourself on the list that matters. Register “larder cupboard” with Sorcit, my free sourcing service, with your rough size and finish, and I’ll actively hunt one down. The moment one lands, you get the email before the page gets the listing. That’s the entire trick to buying rare furniture: stop checking, start registering.
Free click and collect from Houghton-le-Spring, North East delivery by me, couriers UK wide. The pantry dream is closer than the showroom price suggests.
While you’re waiting, dressers and display cabinets scratch a similar itch and are far easier to find.
