Second hand Barker and Stonehouse furniture collection featuring high-quality pieces such as dining tables, beds, and wardrobes.

Second Hand Barker and Stonehouse Furniture, Back Where It Belongs

Barker and Stonehouse started selling furniture in Newcastle in 1946, and there’s a reason the name still means something in every front room from Teesside to Tyneside: they never learned how to build flimsy. Solid hardwood, proper joinery, designs that look as good at ten years old as ten days old. It’s furniture made to be inherited, frankly.

Which is exactly why it’s the backbone of my stock. When a piece this well made comes up second hand, buying it isn’t a compromise, it’s a coup. The build quality that cost somebody four figures new is intact; the only thing that’s depreciated is the price. Up to 90% off, in some cases. The wardrobe doesn’t know the difference. Your bank balance will. And if it was the clearance hunt that brought you here, chasing the pieces the showroom calls seconds or discontinued, this is where that hunt usually ends well.

What comes through? dining tables and chairs, sideboards, wardrobes, beds, chests of drawers, coffee tables, bedside cabinets. Every single one has been through my hands first. I check the drawers, the doors, the joints and the finish, photograph honestly, and list only what I’d have in my own house. One of each, always. When it sells, it’s gone.

There’s something quietly satisfying about this trade, too. This is a North East brand, I’m a North East seller, and most of these pieces end up back in North East homes with decades of service left in them. Good furniture going round again instead of to landfill. That’s not a marketing line, it’s just what happens here every week.

If you’re after a specific piece, a particular range or finish, register it with Sorcit, my free sourcing service. I actively hunt for what’s on the list and email you the moment it lands. A £30 deposit holds any piece. Free click and collect from Houghton-le- Spring, local delivery across the North East by me, couriers UK wide.

P.S. If solid oak is your particular weakness, the Oak Furniture Land collection is the other big name in the building.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. First off I don't do reviews, good or bad!! But on this occasion the service was so exceptional that I feel grateful to have stumbled across this small company based in Houghton le Spring in the Nort East and run by Simon. This guy is so fair and helpful, and goes "above and beyond" to make sure his customers are satisfied with their purchase. We bought 2 secondhand wardrobes from DecorDeluxe.club which were exactly as described and arrived in perfect condition, exceptionally clean and almost as new. We live in the North West some 160 miles away but even with the additional carriage costs it was a better deal than we could get locally. It was a pleasure to deal with this company. If you're looking for seconhand, make this your first port of call.
Thank you Simon.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Trustindex. Excellent Company to deal with
I found the quality oak bed frame which I required, at a price which represented excellent value.
My enquiry received an immediate response from Simon.
I arranged to view & collect the bed on a Saturday morning.
Simon was there to meet me on arrival, having given me excellent directions, and communicating with me on the morning of collection.
Having viewed the bed frame, he assisted with loading into my estate car.
During disassembly at his warehouse, a few plastic items had become damaged, but new replacements were supplied.
Having assembled the bed frame, I’m delighted with the quality, condition, & exceptional value.
The whole purchase experience was perfect from initial enquiry to collection, with attention to detail, rarely found these days.
I would thoroughly recommend this company & expect to purchase further items in future.
