The question is not whether you can find bedside tables at this price. You can. The question is whether they will still be standing in ten years, or whether the drawers will be off their runners and the legs wobbly by Christmas. That is the bit the price tag never tells you. So here is what I know. I am Simon, and I have been sourcing furniture long enough to spot the difference between oak veneer on chipboard and the real thing, and this pair is the real thing. Solid oak throughout, dovetail joints holding the drawers square, tongue and groove panelling where cheaper makers use hardboard. Oak Furnitureland built the Ellipse range properly, and then they stopped making it. These two bedside tables turned up together, and they made the cut.
The design is Scandinavian in the best sense. Clean lines, tapered legs, a light natural oak finish that works with almost any bedroom. No fuss, no ornament for the sake of it, just two drawers and two open shelves doing exactly what bedside tables are supposed to do. The wave carving doubles as the drawer handle, so there is no hardware to date the piece or catch on bedding. You pull the drawer by the curve itself. Practical, and it looks good doing it.
Each table has a slim top drawer for the things you want out of sight and an open shelf below for the things you reach for in the dark. The dovetails mean those drawers stay true. Tongue and groove backs and bases mean the structure stays solid. That is how you build furniture that lasts, and those details do not show up in photographs, but they show up in performance. That carved wave detail running across both drawer fronts is what separates this pair from flat-pack equivalents.
The condition is pre-owned and in great condition, with a few honest imperfections. One of the tables has lightened very slightly over time. It is the sort of difference you might not notice unless you are looking for it, and it appears more obvious in the photographs than it does standing in the room. Anyone is welcome to come and view them in person before committing. The Ellipse range has been discontinued. Oak Furnitureland no longer makes these, so the only way to get them now is to find a pair like this.
