The possibilities turn up first. A seat that makes sense at the foot of the bed, a perch in the hall, extra seating at the dinner table when the numbers creep up. A bench this versatile usually costs compromise somewhere, but this one from Barker and Stonehouse does the job without giving ground. I'm Simon. Most pieces that land here justify the space they take up in one room and one room only. This one earns its keep anywhere you put it.
The design borrows its shape from the pommel horse, which sounds eccentric until you see how it works. Clean, modern lines. Rounded padded upholstery segmented by vertical channel stitching. Two-tone wooden legs showing natural grain. Tan buffalo leather that is deliciously soft now and will only improve. The leather is 100% natural, so expect small scratches and irregularities from nature. That is not a flaw. That is honesty about where the material came from.
And here is the part that matters over time. The leather will develop a patina with use, ageing into that worn vintage look that costs a fortune when someone tries to fake it. You get it for free, just by sitting down. Natural leather does that work on its own. You show up and it rewards the favour.
Barker and Stonehouse sold this bench new for £795. My second hand price is £165. That is £630 less than new for a piece made to improve with age. That is 79% off a bench made from premium soft buffalo leather by a maker who understands that furniture should get better looking the longer you own it.
The condition is second hand with a bit of character, minor signs of wear, still in great nick.
