Most weeks I pass on plenty. Then a nest like this surfaces. Oak Furnitureland's Boston range, solid oak tops paired with those angled metal sleigh legs, and a price that makes the arithmetic easy. I'm Simon, and I've been hunting furniture in the North East long enough to know when a piece justifies the trip. This one did.
Oak Furnitureland built the Boston range around one idea: warm natural oak meeting dark industrial metalwork, with all the contrast doing the visual work. These tables follow that script exactly. Solid oak tops, light to medium tone, plenty of natural grain and knots showing through, each one different because that is what solid timber does. The tops overhang slightly, paired with those angled sleigh-style metal legs in a dark matte finish. The effect is clean, contemporary, and utterly unmistakable if you know the range.
Traditional dovetail joints hold the structure square. That level of joinery is not decoration. It is how you build furniture that stays true long term, with no wobble, no sag, no gradual loosening over the years. The smaller table nests neatly beneath the larger one when you do not need both out, so you get extra surface space without losing floor space. Pull it out when guests arrive, tuck it back when they leave. Sorted.
Here is the thing about discontinued ranges. The Boston collection is no longer in production, so matching pieces only turn up when someone is selling. The condition is second hand and in great condition, with a few honest imperfections. On the largest table, there are two small areas where the finish is ever so slightly lighter in colour. I am not entirely sure what has caused this, but it is a very minor imperfection and is not particularly noticeable in everyday use. I mention it for transparency, not because it changes how the tables perform or look across a room.
My second hand price is £95. For solid oak construction, joinery that will outlast flat pack by decades, and a discontinued design you cannot order new, that figure does its own persuading.
