Let’s talk about bookcases. Most are either too fussy or too flat — all function, no soul. This one? It strikes the rare balance. Solid oak, clean lines, and a quiet confidence that says “I belong in a room where people actually read.” Built by Oak FurnitureLand as part of their Tokyo range, it’s got that understated elegance that doesn’t shout but still gets noticed — a bit like a perfectly tailored coat.
Four open shelves give you space to show off your best reads or display bits and bobs with meaning, while the two drawers at the base keep the clutter tucked away. No awkward wobbles here — this piece is built to last, with traditional dovetail joints and tongue and groove panelling you can’t help but admire if you take a peek behind. The metal handles add just enough contrast against the warm, natural oak grain, and that softly curved top edge? A small detail — but it’s the details that make something feel considered.
And yes, it’s second hand — but so what? This bookcase has already earned its stripes. The condition? Pre-loved and in great condition, with a few honest imperfections. There are a few light signs of use, including a faint half-circle mark on the top shelf that only catches the light at certain angles, along with a couple of small scuffs. Nothing that distracts from the overall look or character of the piece. In fact, those little marks might just remind you that good furniture should live a little.
Measuring up at Height: 179 cm (70.5 in) x Width: 100 cm (39.4 in) x Depth: 35 cm (13.8 in), it’s substantial without dominating a room. Finished in a smooth, medium-toned oak, the grain sings under natural light — warm, inviting, and full of life. Whether you’re leaning into Scandi simplicity or mixing it into a more eclectic space, this piece adapts without trying too hard.
Our second hand price? £145. For context, it originally retailed at £599. That’s not just savings — that’s smart shopping with a side of triumph.
