Let’s talk about storage done right — not flashy, not fussy, just solid, sensible, and seriously good-looking. This double chest of drawers from Oak Furniture Land’s now-discontinued Shay range isn’t the kind of piece that screams for attention. It simply stands there, quietly confident, with its almond grey painted body, warm rustic oak top, and those jaunty turned feet that say, “Yes, I was made to last — and yes, I know I look good doing it.”
Crafted from solid oak wood, it’s built like the furniture your grandparents wished they’d kept. Traditional dovetail joints hold the drawers together — a mark of proper craftsmanship you don’t see much these days — and tongue and groove panelling runs along the back and base of each drawer, adding strength and that subtle, hand-finished quality. The layout? Nine drawers in total: three smaller ones up top for your bits and bobs, and six generous lower drawers for everything from jumpers to jeans. Practical? Absolutely. Beautiful? Just look at it.
The finish is a soft two-tone dream — light cream body paired with a medium-toned natural oak top — giving it that timeless charm that works just as well in a cottage bedroom as it does in a modern minimalist space. Dark metal round knobs add a sleek contrast, and the moulded edges give it a gentle presence, not a shouty one. This is the kind of furniture that doesn’t date. It just settles in and gets better with time.
Condition? Pre-loved, with a bit of character — minor signs of wear, still in great nick. Translation: it’s lived a little, loved a lot, and has the faintest stories to tell (think biscuit crumbs in the back of a drawer, not water damage or war wounds). This piece has already earned its stripes.
Our pre-loved price? £245. For a piece originally retailing at £650 — that’s more than half off for something built to outlive your next sofa, your next haircut, possibly even your next phone. And let’s be honest, finding a quality solid oak chest like this at that price new? Not happening.
Dimensions: Height: 78cm x Width: 140cm x Depth: 43cm. — compact enough for a smaller room, but still packs a storage punch.
