The headboard and footboard are both slatted, both gently curved, giving the whole frame a softness that stops a rustic piece feeling heavy in the room. The slats are reclaimed timber, ethically sourced, with that sundried wheat finish left subtly distressed so the grain shows through and every plank carries its own character. The legs are shaker-style, slightly flared at the base, and they hold the frame square without fuss. You notice them when you look, then forget them when you use it, which is exactly the job good legs should do.
Dovetail joints hold the structure together. That is a detail Barker and Stonehouse could have skipped and most buyers would never have known. They did not skip it. The joinery is visible, the fit is tight, and the frame will stay true for years because somebody spec'd it properly the first time around.
The base is slatted, ready for a mattress, with no drawers or storage underneath. Clean, simple, does the one thing it is meant to. The natural wood finish has been left raw in places, untreated, so you see the actual material rather than a coat of varnish pretending to be wood. Texture, grain, the odd knot. It all stays.
