This display unit surfaced, and the two-tone colourway made the call on its own. Light oak against off-white painted shelving, framed glass doors, and a pair of deep drawers underneath. It made the cut, and now it is here.
The glass doors are framed, not floating, which gives the whole unit structure rather than gloss. Three shelves inside, spaced wide enough for proper display, and a panelled back so everything you put in there sits against solid board, not wall paint. Below the doors, two drawers, both wide, both deep, both dovetail jointed. That joint is proof of intent. Cheap units glue and staple. This one locks its corners tight and keeps them that way.
The two-tone finish does more work than you would think. The oak sits on the door frames and drawer fronts, warm and plain, and the off-white takes the carcass and shelving. It is subtle, not shouty, and it gives the piece enough colour interest to hold a wall without needing a gallery's worth of ornaments inside it.
The handles are smooth metal, fitted to both drawers and doors, and they sit flush enough not to snag but proud enough to grip. The base is slightly raised, which lifts the whole unit clear of the floor and gives it a cleaner line. Practical, because it is easier to clean underneath, and elegant, because it stops the piece looking planted.
Part solid oak, part veneered, which is how furniture at this standard is built. The parts you see and touch are solid. The parts doing structural work use veneer over engineered board, which stays stable and does not warp. The result is a unit that sits square.
The condition is second-hand and in great condition, with a few honest imperfections. On the top of the unit, towards the right-hand side, there is some very slight impact damage. There are also a few light scuffs here and there, consistent with general use. None of it affects function, and none of it shows once the top is dressed or the unit is in position against a wall.
