That central door, carved panel, gothic arch, proper detail work that takes time and skill and a maker who actually cares about ornament. Then you clock the fluted columns running down each outer edge, the black metal hardware catching the light, and the fact that every inch of this chest is built from reclaimed wood. I'm Simon, and I've seen plenty of chests trying to look rustic with a few distress marks knocked in at the factory. This one earned its character the honest way, piece by piece, timber by timber. It made the cut because furniture this considered, at this price, does not turn up often.
Six small drawers arranged in two vertical pairs sit above two wide lower drawers. That central carved door opens to a cupboard. The layout is clever: small stuff stays organised, bulky stuff goes below, and anything you want hidden sits behind that gothic panel. The arrangement works.
Traditional dovetail joints hold each drawer together. Tongue and groove panelling lines the back and the base of every drawer. Those are the details that separate furniture built to last from furniture built to shift. Dovetails keep drawers square and true for decades. Tongue and groove stops thin hardboard flexing and failing. Reclaimed wood brings grain and warmth that fresh timber takes years to develop, and here it shows in every panel, every surface, every soft variation in tone. The light natural finish lets the wood do the talking. The fluted columns and the carved door are flourishes, but they are restrained ones. Character without shouting.
The condition is second hand and in great condition, with a few honest imperfections. It has a few scuffs and scrapes here and there but they sit right in keeping with the reclaimed wood nature. You are buying furniture with history, and the marks prove it.
