The curved finger joint detail across the top corners of this sideboard and along every drawer front is a signature move from Ercol's Bosco range, and it's the kind of touch that separates proper furniture from the stuff that looks fine in a photograph and ordinary in a room. I'm Simon, I've been finding pieces like this across the North East for long enough to know when a maker has put actual thought into the details, and this one earned its place the moment I opened the first drawer and felt the pull.
Ercol. Bosco range. Part solid oak, part veneered, finished in their clear matt lacquer so the grain does the talking and the surface takes daily life without fuss. Two large cupboards frame a central bank of four drawers, all fronted with those recessed semi-circular handles that sit under your fingers like they were carved for the job. No hardware to snag or tarnish. Just wood, shaped right.
Inside those drawers, traditional dovetail joints. The kind that keep a drawer square through decades of opening and closing, moving house, being filled and emptied and knocked about in all the ways furniture gets knocked about when it's actually used. The cupboards give you space for the things that need to disappear. The drawers give you space for the things you need to hand. Between them, you've got storage that works rather than storage that apologises for itself.
The finish is a light natural oak tone, smooth and matte, warm without shouting about it.
