The round metal knobs are simple, deliberate, placed dead centre on each drawer front. Not fussy, not fancy, just right. They catch the light in that way small details do when the rest of a piece is all substance and no show. These are bedside tables from Laura Ashley's Garrat range, and I wanted the pair the moment I saw them together.
Garrat was one of those ranges that got it right. Clean lines, proper proportions, built around solid birch and birch veneer rather than cutting corners. Laura Ashley discontinued the range, which means you cannot walk into a shop and buy these new any more. That matters if you already own a piece from the collection and have been hunting for a match. It also matters if you just want a pair of bedside tables that look like they were designed by someone who cared, finished in a dark chestnut stain that is warm without being overpowering.
Each table has a single drawer positioned centrally under the top. The drawer fronts are visible, the knobs are metal, and the legs are square and sturdy. The wood finish is a medium warm brown tone with the natural grain showing through, consistent across both pieces. The overall craftsmanship speaks to durability and functional style, no ornate detailing, just clean, classic design that suits traditional and country-inspired interiors without trying too hard.
