Let’s talk about the bedside table — or rather, this gloriously useful extra-wide slab of solid oak that refuses to be just a bedside table. Measuring a generous 80 cm wide, it’s the kind of piece that laughs in the face of clutter, swallows remotes, books, and midnight snacks whole, and still looks calm, collected, and quietly elegant. At only 62 cm tall, it’s low enough to keep your room feeling spacious, but don’t let its modest height fool you — this is furniture with presence.
Crafted from solid oak wood by Barker & Stonehouse — yes, that Barker & Stonehouse — it carries the quiet confidence of British-made quality. You can see it in the clean lines, feel it in the weighty frame, and hear it when the drawer shuts with that satisfying, expensive thunk. And speaking of drawers, there are three of them, stacked tall and smart, each built with traditional dovetail joints because someone, somewhere, cared deeply about craftsmanship. The flat-front panels keep things sleek and modern, while the brushed metal handles add just enough contrast to remind you this isn’t just functional — it’s design with intent.
The finish? A natural light oak that lets the wood breathe — warm, grainy, and full of life. It’s the kind of look that works anywhere: beside a bed, tucked beside a sofa, or even doubling as a mini console in a hallway. Minimalist lovers, this one’s for you. But so are maximalists who appreciate a solid place to dump their stuff in style.
Condition? Pre-loved and in great condition, with a few honest imperfections. There’s a touch of light wear on the top at either side, as shown in the photographs. It’s minor and doesn’t take away from the overall look of the piece. Think of it not as damage, but as character — the faintest whisper of a life well lived. This piece has already earned its stripes.
Our second-hand price is £75 — which, when compared to what a new solid oak chest would cost (especially one with proper joinery and real timber), feels like finding a tenner in last winter’s coat. And yes, you read that right: seventy-five pounds for a Barker & Stonehouse piece built to outlive trends and toddlers alike.
Height: 62 cm (24.4 in) x Width: 80 cm (31.5 in) x Depth: 41 cm (16.1 in). Big enough to matter, small enough to fit just about anywhere.
