Nine drawers is a lot of storage. Sounds obvious, but you do not realise how much space you are missing until you suddenly have it. Three small at the top, three wide across the middle, three more wide below, all in solid oak, all built with proper joinery. This is the Galway double chest from Oak Furnitureland, a discontinued range that combined clean contemporary lines with material quality that outlasts trends. I am Simon, and I have seen enough flat-pack drawer units collapse under their own weight to know the difference when a piece like this turns up. This one made the cut, and now it is here.
The Galway range did something clever. It kept the warmth of natural solid oak but stripped away the fuss. No carving, no heavy moulding, just clean lines, a distinctive raised top, and those curved brushed-metal handles that give the whole thing a smart, understated finish. The medium oak tone shows the grain without fighting it. The result is a chest that works in a period bedroom or a new-build flat, and does not look out of place in either.
The construction is where this piece earns its keep. Traditional dovetail joints hold every drawer together, so they stay square and slide true year after year. Tongue and groove panelling lines the back of the unit and the base of each drawer. That level of detail only shows up in furniture built to a standard, not a budget. The chest stands on sturdy square legs with no apology for being exactly what it is: nine drawers, solid oak, built to handle daily use without complaint.
The handles are sleek brushed metal with a slight curve, just enough contrast against the oak without shouting about it. The top row gives you three smaller drawers, perfect for smaller items that otherwise scatter across a surface. The two rows below are wider and deeper, the kind of storage that swallows folded jumpers, jeans, gym kit, whatever needs a home. You open a drawer and it feels weighted, not hollow. That is solid wood and proper runners doing their work.
The condition is PreLoved with a bit of character. Minor signs of wear, still in great nick.

My PreLoved price is £225. For nine drawers in solid oak with joinery like this, that is a fraction of what equivalent quality costs new.
