Those glass doors. Two tall panels, absolutely clear, no frosting or bevel, framed in solid oak. They open to three fixed shelves, everything on show. Below them, two drawers with drop handles. Simple, honest farmhouse build, the kind Barker and Stonehouse do properly. I'm Simon, and when a display unit this straightforward turns up in this condition, it makes the cut without fuss. It is here now.
Solid oak throughout. Not veneer over particle board, not oak effect, not oak finished, actual solid timber. The grain runs warm and natural, finished in a medium oak tone that brings out the depth. Run your hand across the top and you feel the texture of real wood. Open a drawer and you find traditional dovetail joints at every corner. Those joints are not decorative. They hold the drawer square under load, year after year, and they are one of the clearest signs a maker has built something to last.
The doors swing open on round metal knobs, no resistance, no wobble. Three shelves inside, fixed at sensible intervals, ready for whatever you need on display: books, glassware, china, photographs. The glass is plain and clear, so what is on the shelves does the talking. Below, the two drawers offer closed storage within the same frame. Drop handles, solid and easy to grip. Pull one out and the dovetails do their work, the drawer glides level and true.
The unit stands on solid timber legs with a slight taper, sturdy but refined. The proportions are compact without feeling tight: tall enough to anchor a wall, narrow enough not to dominate the room. It fits into a dining room, a hallway, a living room, anywhere you need storage that earns its place through quality rather than size.
The condition is second-hand and looking fabulous, in genuinely great condition. No significant marks, no repairs, no compromise. It has been used, and it shows no wear for it.

My second-hand price is £245. Furniture built like this, from a brand like Barker and Stonehouse, costs several times that bought new from retailers of this standard. You are looking at solid oak, dovetail joinery, and a finish that has held beautifully. That is £245 for a display unit that will still be standing square in twenty years.
