Let’s talk about real oak furniture — the kind that doesn’t wobble after five years, doesn’t sag under the weight of your socks, and actually gets better with time. This chest of drawers? It’s built from solid oak wood, crafted by Barker & Stonehouse, and carries that unmistakable weight — both literally and in presence. You can feel the quality the moment you run your hand over the grain. It’s not flashy. It’s not trying too hard. It just is. And honestly, that’s exactly what good furniture should do.
Our second hand price is £225 — that’s less than a third of the original £750 RRP, for a piece that’s still in great condition. The condition? Pre-owned, with some signs of wear, however, still in great condition. That means it’s lived — probably in a warm home, maybe near a window where the light caught the grain just right. There are no dramatic scars, no missing knobs or wonky drawers. Just honest, lived-in charm. Furniture that’s earned its stripes.
It’s built the old-school way, too. Traditional dovetail joints hold the drawers together — a sign of proper craftsmanship, not just glue and hope. The backs and drawer bases use tongue and groove panelling, which means it’s stable, sturdy, and designed to last. This isn’t flat-pack pretending to be furniture. This is the real deal, with a huge amount of rustic character and presence that fills a room without shouting.
Measuring in at Height: 98 cm (38.6 in) x Width: 92 cm (36.2 in) x Depth: 43.5 cm (17.1 in), it’s substantial without dominating — perfect for a bedroom that values both function and soul. And if you’re thinking “this would look brilliant with a matching piece”, well — just so you know, there are two matching double chests of drawers also up for grabs, sold separately. Imagine the symmetry. The storage. The sheer satisfaction of a coordinated bedroom that didn’t cost a small mortgage.
